Moving Forward: Writing

If I’m not posting as frequently as I was for a while there, it’s because, well, I’ve got these resumes to send out, job-hunting phone calls to make, etc.

And yet, while the banks close in and prepare to carve up our house and the like, and Penny and I continue to look for work, life still goes on. Kids still have swim lessons and gymnastics practice, the business (anemic as it is) still needs me to do work, and dinner still needs to be prepared.

Something else that I need to continue attending to? My writing.

Writing this blog has been a great way for me to vent my spleen and to figure out what the hell I’m doing and where I should be heading with regard to my marriage and my life. Thank you all for helping me with this! At the same time, though, I have fiction projects I want to work on. Now that you and I have this rapport,  dear reader, please allow me to ask if you’d be interested in helping me with something else. I won’t be offended if you decline.

Would you be interested in reading and commenting on a novel I’ve begun writing? I would write it at about the same pace as my blog (well, more like two or three entries per week, when I’m not otherwise moving, divorcing, groveling for work, or robbing banks). All I’d ask is that you read it and offer any comments you may have about what is working and what isn’t for you as a reader. With your encouragement (and your gentle guidance), my goal is to make steady progress on a fiction project that, some day not too far down the road, people might be willing to buy off the book stands.

My plan is to work on the project on a password protected blog.

Are you interested? Want to know more before saying one way or the other?

Please either post your interest or your questions here (the e-mail addresses you enter when you post comments — or when you log in via WordPress and then comment — can be seen by me but are not posted publicly) or drop me a line at “it never rains in seattle at g mail dot com.”

Thanks for considering it!

And now, back to my failing marriage and pithy observations about life, already in progress….

  1. Well, I think we both know where I stand on this project. Bring it on!

Looking forward to my super secret password, 003 1/2.

  2. I would definitely be interested. I’ve been enjoying your writing on this blog, and it would be great to watch a fiction work in process evolve… and maybe add a teensy bit of value, if I can.

  3. I’d be interested too! But I’d like to warn you that when people ask my opinion, I’m honest!

  4. Count me in!

  5. I would love to read it too! Also Inris, I wanted to let you know that I have awarded you the Kreative Blogger Award. You can grab the badge from my site’s sidebar. I am tring to hyperlink to your site. Best, Pippi

  12. I’d definitely be interested in assisting you.

  13. You already know my answer; YES. I was also an English major, which makes it difficult to read anything that is not well written. (A big reason why I enjoy everything you write!)

That said… I find myself craving the next chapter in your soon-to-be single life.
What is happening on the divorce front? Are you closer in reality or simply in theory?
Selfishly, I find myself looking forward to “the dating chronicles”. Hurry! (lol)

  14. I’m also interested, provided that the caveat posted by NySoonerGirl is recognized for me as well.

  15. Hey INRIS – =)
I’m glad to hear you’re writing a book. Go for it! You’re a talented guy… and deserve a break.
Also wanted to say “thanks” for all the times you gave me helpful advice on my SamStartingOver blog. Life is strange… but, I hope it all works out for the best. Take care.
    Sam

  18. Would love to. You know how to contact us all. 🙂

  19. If you don’t think that it would be like having too many cooks, then yes. With luck, you’ll only hear good things. 🙂

  20. […] last note before I call it a day: I’ll be setting up my new, super secret blog project this week. If you expressed an interest in helping me but haven’t received a password and web […]

  21. I’m reading backwards today. Now I see the secret. I’m in!

  22. Hi Seattle, sorry to have been absent for so long but my brain is almost recalibrated and my body rebooted. I will voraciously read anything you put in front of me but, sadly, the only qualification I have to critique is that English is my first and only language 😉
